The Portuguese National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CNADS) has published its opinion on the proposed Sectoral Programme for Renewable Energy Acceleration Areas. The Council supports accelerating renewable energy development in line with Portugal’s climate objectives, while stressing the need to safeguard biodiversity and landscapes. It calls for the identification of acceleration areas to be based on reliable evidence and clear environmental and spatial planning criteria. The opinion also highlights the importance of transparency and effective public participation throughout the planning process.
